The Crime of the Week is a theft report. The Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a theft that took place at 37598 South River Drive, Culbertson, NE. on the late night of August 1st or early morning of August 2nd ,2007. Suspects stole a two wheeled D.R. Pro Field & Brush electric start self-propelled walking lawn mower. The mower is powered by a Kawasaki 15 horse motor, has four forward and one reverse speeds, a 28 inch width, and is valued at over $2,800.

Tim Brown reported that a suspect or suspects forcibly entered his home located at 1510 West 10th Street in McCook on the morning between the 6th and 9th of September. Suspects removed two gallon jars containing several hundred dollars in coins. I

The Crime of the Week is a burglary report on file with the McCook Police Department. Russell Doyle reported suspects entered his residence at 303 South 9th Street on September 2nd or 3rd , 2007. A gallon jug and a peanut butter jar containing approximately one thousand dollars were stolen from the home.

Phillip Lyons reported that suspects threw a bottle through the window of his 1992 Buick while it was parked at 1007 East 1st Street on the early morning of September 9th , 2007. Damages to the vehicle amounted to several hundred dollars.

Lori Stull reported that suspects threw a cement block through the window of her 1998 Buick while it was parked at 1204 East 1st Street on the early morning of July 15, 2007. Damages to the vehicle amounted to several hundred dollars.
The Crime of the Week is a criminal mischief report on file with the McCook Police Department. The City of McCook reported the destruction of a toilet in the women’s’ bathroom in Norris Park on June 28, 2007. Losses as a result of this crime amounted to several hundred dollars.

The Crime of the Week is a burglary report on file with the McCook Police Department. Cory Weeth reported a suspect forcibly entered his mobile home located at lot 24 at 1604 West 4th Street in McCook during the week of June 25, 2007. Items of clothing and CD’s were stolen in the burglary.
HITCHCOCK COUNTY SHERIFF'S REPORT
Sometime on Monday night, May 7th, 2007, person or persons stole a "Road Closed" Sign from the intersection of RD 372 and RD 715. On Wednesday night, May 9th, 200, two more "Road Closed" Signs were stolen, one from the intersection of Hwy 17 and RD 714, and the other from the intersection of RD 713 and RD 378. The signs are white on the front side with black lettering and the backs of the signs are brown in color. The signs were placed at these locations by road employees after heavy rains in the area washed out the county roads.

During the night of November 5, to the morning of November 12, 2006, person or persons unlawfully entered a vehicle that was parked at Bieker’s Body and Collision. Stereo equipment was stolen. The loss is estimated at approximately $400.00.

In the late hours of October 1, 2006 to the early morning hours of October 2, 2006 person or persons illegally entered a vehicle parked in the 300 block of East 6th Street. Stereo equipment was stolen. The loss is estimated at $3,100.

In the late hours of November 24, 2006 to the early hours of November 25, 2006 person or persons illegally entered the Kildare Lumber and Home Improvement lot. A pop machine was opened and the contents of the money catchers were stolen. The loss is estimated at $500.00.

On January 5, 2007 to the early morning hours of January 8, 2007 person or persons stole three Motorola UHF radios from Hitchcock County school vans. The vans were parked on the Stratton bus parking lot located at 509 Bristol Street in Stratton, Nebraska.

During the timeframe of the evening hours of February 2, 2007 to the early morning hours of February 3, 2007 person or persons illegally entered Billy’s Auto Service at 1805 West O Street. Tools were stolen.
JANUARY 2007 - Hitchcock County
1) Theft - Indianola. Stolen from Voltz work vehicle while parked in Indianola at employees address, Freon recovery machine and torch kit. Value $1,000.00. Items were in an unlocked compartment in bed of truck. Items taken approximately 12-08-06. Chain saw was taken from neighbor on same day. Value 175.00 on chain saw.
2) On or about October 31, 2006, the Gerald Maris Construction Company had a Target self propelled concrete saw roll out the back of their trailer on U.S. Highway 34 near the Swanson Dam turn off located appx. 3 miles west of Trenton, Nebraska. At appx. 12:50 p.m., on October 31st, 2006, witnesses observed individuals loading this machine into a light or neutral colored small pickup and leaving the scene.
3) Sometime between the evening hours of January 5th, 2007, and the early morning hours of January 8th, 2007, persons unknown stole three Motorola UHF high ban radios from Hitchcock County school vans that were parked on the Stratton bus parking lot located on 509 Bristol Street in Stratton, Nebraska.

The Crime of the Week is a criminal mischief report on file with the McCook Police Department. Frenchman Valley Coop reported that a suspect or suspects forcibly entered a door of the business located at 102 East 3rd Street in McCook on the morning of April 23rd, 2006. Once inside, the suspects searched office areas, but nothing was reported stolen. There was several hundred dollars in damages to the building.

County road signs located on roads North of McCook have been damaged by gun fire in several recent incidents. Total losses as a result of this crime amounted to more than one thousand dollars.

The Crime of the Week is an Arson report on file with the Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Department. Person or persons set fires at the Bear Cave Restaurant and the Quarter Moon Bar located in Culbertson, Nebraska during the early morning of April 30th, 2006. The businesses sustained tens of thousands of dollars in damages as a result of these crimes.

Lloyd Shields reported that a suspect or suspects forcibly entered the front door of his residence located at 1202 West 12th Street in McCook on the morning of March 11, 2006. Once inside, the suspects ransacked the home and stole a safe, a collection of 75 hunting and pocket knives, two ruby rings, a pearl ring, a collection of 50 Zippo lighters, 20 Mother’s Day plates, a Minolta and a Yashica 35mm cameras, and other items valued at several thousand dollars.

Brett Schmidt reported that suspects removed a door from the loading dock at 308 Airport Road between January 9th and 17th of 2006. The standard right-hand door was peach colored with an oval shaped opening for a door glass and was valued at $650.00.

The Crime of the Week is a burglary report on file with the McCook Police Department. The Spirit Shoppe located at 503 West B. Street in McCook reported that a suspect broke the door glass and entered the business on the late night of January 1, 2006. Once inside the business the suspect, or suspects, removed a case of beer and a carton of Marlboro cigarettes. Total losses as a result of this crime amounted to several hundred dollars.

The Orschleins store located at 1602 North Highway 83 in McCook reported that persons forcibly entered the business on the early morning of January 25th, 2006. Suspects attempted to force open a safe and damaged the wall of the business.

During the early morning hours of January 16th, 2004, through the early morning hours of January 17th, 2004, person or persons vandalized a 1983 John Deere 300B Backhoe Loader, as it sat in the Trenton Cemetery. Total damage was estimated at $2100.
The McCook Area Crime Stoppers Board of Directors is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the person or persons who vandalized a 1983 John Deere 300B backhoe/loader owned by Leon Wright, while it was parked overnight at the Trenton Cemetery on January 16th 2004. The piece of equipment was shot with a high-powered rifle and damage was listed at $2100.

This incident occurred south of Republican Valley High School on a county road. Total estimated loss was valued at $1900.

During the late evening hours of May 6th, 2004, through the early morning hours of May 10th, 2004 person or persons illegally entered a vehicle while it was parked either in the Westview Plaza parking lot or the 800 block of East 5th Street. While inside the vehicle they stole a racing helmet. The helmet was in a black satchel bag, was white in color with the words "G-Force" inscribed on the back. The helmet was a model SA 2000 with a visor. Total estimated loss was in excess of $360.

During the early morning hours of July 18th, 2004, the body of David Moreau was found in the vicinity of 402 Missouri Avenue Circle #1. It was determined that Mr. Moreau had died from a force blunt trauma to the head.

During the late evening hours of July 18th through the early morning hours of July 19th 2004, person or persons caused damage to a radiator on a pivot irrigation system near Indianola, Nebraska. Damage was estimated in excess of $100.00.

During the early morning hours of July 25th, 2004, person or persons intentionally opened valves on two Anhydrous Ammonia tanks owned by Frenchman Valley Farmer’s Co-op, causing over 1100 gallons to be released into the air. The incident not only caused risk to public health and safety, but also cost Frenchman over $1200 in property loss.

On the evening of July15th and July 20th 2004, person or persons illegally place stolen City of McCook road barricades on North Highway 83 south of McCook by Barnett Park. In one instance, the barricade was painted black on one side to conceal it from drivers. We advise citizens to please be careful when driving and watch for these barricades.

That building contains Michaelis Chiropractic, Wine Law Office and other private offices. Total damage and theft estimates are pending.

During the timeframe of July 4th, 2004 through July 10th, 2004 person or persons broke the front door of a gas station in Lebanon, Nebraska. Individuals then entered the station and removed antique gas pumps and other items of value. Estimated loss is yet to be determined.

During the late evening hours of September 24th, through the early morning hours of September 25th, 2004, person or persons intentionally damaged the McCook Community College transport bus as it was parked in the Swimming Pool parking lot. Damage was done to the driver and passenger’s side windows. Use of a small explosive device is suspected. The same type of incident occurred to the same bus on October 18th, 2004.

During the weekend of December 4th, 2004, persons or persons cut Christmas lights belonging to a resident in rural McCook. Although dollar amount of damage is low, several related incidents have been reported in the McCook area, making the total estimated loss to homeowners much higher.

At approximately midnight on April 5th, 2005, a two-vehicle accident occurred in the intersection of West 1st and B Streets in McCook. A newer black or dark colored full size Ford pickup with extended cab collided with another vehicle, then fled the scene. Damage to the other vehicle involved was estimated at $2000.
